The Same Kind of Different

by Apr 11, 2018Uncategorized

Do you ever find yourself encountering the same road blocks over and over again?

So imagine you find yourself setting up a new diet and exercise regime. What have you done differently this time around that makes you feel confident that you will get a different result?

Let me explain.

Lets say in the past our example tried to “cut out” certain foods in an effort to lose weight.

Alongside this they have devised for themselves a program which they plan to follow at the gym.

Maybe if they are like many of the people we meet here at Storm, they will have failed to see the kind of results they want from this approach.

However…

Will they do more or less exactly the same thing again?…and again…and again?

Statically they are likely to. 2 years ago Professor Falko Sniehotta, human behavioural psychologist at Newcastle Uni came to talk us through some of the statistics he and his team had gathered and most shocking was the number of failed weight loss attempts people would make.

Though; regardless whether a method was effective, people tend to return to it time and again.

So… back to our example who is about to restart. They are going to decide what to cut out then devise for themselves a new program to follow….again

Maybe it’s not that the program was wrong last time or that the list of foods they cut out was wrong.

Maybe what they actually needed was somebody to hold them accountable to being consistent.

However, for our example person which is more uncomfortable:

Failure or unfamiliarity?
